I have worked with my very good friends at BKWLD for the last three years. Some of the coolest and nicest folks in the biz. Here I handle the video and animation side of things. I am able to concept on interactive and lend a hand illustrating when schedules and projects line up. Most all of what you see here has been directed, edited, animated, drawn, or shot by me.
My current position at BKWLD is Creative Director of Storytelling.
BKWLD CONTENT REEL
A montage of my work for the digital agency BKWLD.com
Through BKWLD I directed, shot, edited, storyboarded, and concepted a micro site for Drexel University. The original idea from the agency was a simple video that alumni would pass around through email. Instead I suggested loop-able video combined with inspirational quotes giving the user something they might actually share. The videos were inspired by the feel of cinema-graphs and animated gifs. The user flow was kept nice and simple.
The site was featured in Communication Arts, Awwwards, and FWA.

For Clif Bar I created an animated intro for use during the 2nd Annual "Pisco Bloc" for which Clif was title sponsor. Pisco Bloc is a fairly new extension to the free climbing scene. The climbers either find cliffs over open ocean or build climbing walls over pools, in this case it was built. This intro played before broadcast of the event and was pushed throughout Facebook and Instagram days before the event.
For the animation we hand rotoscoped the key action. Each frame was printed out and then recreated on transparency with paint and brush. The artwork was then scanned back into the computer and composited with the backgrounds.

Here is a music video I directed with my friend Ryan Todd. I've always been a big fan of dub music and of Ralph Bakshi, and so I decided to combined them. Another big inspiration for me was all the great dub album cover art from reggae artists like The Scientist, King Tubby, and Prince Jammy. I handled all the art direction and almost all of the post and animation. For a complete breakdown please check the credits at the end.
A lot of people liked the video and we even got an interview/write up in Wired.com.
CHLLNGR Music Video
Working with Saatchi NYC, for BKWLD, I was tasked with directing a highly interactive showcase of this slick new desktop. I storyboarded, directed, edited, and handled animation - whew. Another rewarding part was the amount of input I was able to have during the interactive concepts. The end product was a Microsite and two spots for online traffic.
Designing for the Lenovo A720 campaign was all about user functionality and app designing know-how. BKWLD drew inspiration for all of the UI design elements by looking at music and video editing software currently used by musicians and modern day creatives.
This site was nominated for a Webby.

Tableau Software is one of the leaders in data visualization. They needed content to help announce their latest version release. What was special about this version is that it now runs native on OSX. Besides the video here, i created six different versions that could be leveraged in other parts of the campaign such as banners, etc. I boarded, directed, shot, cut, and composited this project.
Through BKWLD I worked with Hoffman Lewis to create six unique and unexpected moments for the general public of St. Louis. All using non-actors, we designed real situations where McDonald's breakfast could turn the 'ordinary a bit more extraordinary.' These moments were shot with hidden cameras and crews, then turned into six TV spots. I storyboarded, directed, and handled editorial for all the broadcast. The spots needed to feel fun and honest, but not become a cliche flash-mob-thing. We collaborated with HL to choose the best combination of locations and scenarios that were strategic to the messaging, while being efficient with the production budget and timeline.
The spots were a big success and were continued by Hoffman Lewis in Boston.

FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL
I have been creating the Intro/Sponsor Reel for my friends at the Sacramento French Film Festival since 2009. Here are examples from the last three years. These are all done pretty much as quicky-pro bono-type projects. The festival's directors are friends of ours and I really use it as a stress free way to explore new ideas and techniques.

I was approached by the folks at Radioeditav.com to create some live trippy visuals for musician Bassnectar. The timeline was incredibly short, something like a week. So I gathered three of my illustrator friends/family and came up with this.

CROCKER ART MUSEUM
The Living Mural is an installation at the Crocker Art Museum. I helped produce and concept, and I created the illustration/animations. The really fun part was using my daughters for elements throughout the experience like voice over and acting.

A brand video for Cupcake Vineyards highlighting their winemaker. This was a fun project because of the quick and dirty nature of the production. The crew was just a producer and I lurking in the vineyards for two days.

BKWLD AMBIENT VIDEO
We wanted to create a BKWLD brand video that truly said who we were, but at the same time, without trying to say too much. I had our staff dig through all their old iphone camera roll videos and send them over to me. After I had those, I shot a few extras to keep the vibe going. This video plays in the header of BKWLD'S website on loop. There is no real beginning or end, but is engaging throughout. We had fun using iphones as capture devices. It was freeing to not be overly concerned with "quality" and be able to focus on story and the family.
A simple animation designed to show off the new features of Moto's latest (at least back in 2009). This was for world wide online distribution and needed to be understood with out using specific languages.
I directed, animated, and edited.
Some animated gifs of "The Lurker" for my friend Skinner. Keep an eye out for an animated short coming soon.
I handled character design and animation for a joke written and recorded by Comedian Sara Silverman. It was for an online comic series created by Director Fred Wolf.
I have worked a number of different times for YouTube content stars "Smosh." I believe they are on top, as far as views, with something like two billion! Anyways, I help them with all their weird anime stuff, for which I'm grateful.

A brand video I created for my friends at Queue, a super cool venue management and ticketing app. This video had a dual purpose. Once the video was cut and finished, I stitched together a very long animated gif using sections of the footage. That gif was then used for an interactive portion of the site.
